🏁 Finish Line Features: Max Jolliffe – The King of Moab

Welcome to Finish Line Features — a blog series by Sprint Finish Studio celebrating inspiring runners from around the world. Whether it's a first 5K or a 240-mile ultra, we're here to highlight the stories behind the splits - real achievements from real runners that deserve a permanent place on the wall.

For our very first feature, we’re kicking things off with someone who truly redefines endurance: Max Jolliffe.

Who Is Max Jolliffe?

Max Jolliffe is a California-born ultrarunner known for smashing some of the most brutal races on the map - and making it look oddly fun and stylish in the process. If you’re in the ultrarunning community, follow running culture on social media or you are constantly on Strava, there’s a good chance you’ve seen one of his infamous Strava meme posts - a blend of self-deprecating humour, brutal honesty and elite-level grit.

Max isn’t just internet fast — he’s real-life fast.

🏆 Key Achievements:

  • Winner – Moab 240
A 240-mile beast through the Utah desert, the Moab 240 is one of the most grueling races in the world. Max not only completed it, which is a huge accomplishment in itself, he won it.

  • Winner – Angeles Crest 100 (2024)
Just this past weekend, Max added another epic win to his list by taking first place at the Angeles Crest 100, one of the original 100-mile trail races in the U.S. Set in the Los Angeles National Forest, the course is a punishing mix of steep climbs, rocky descents and relentless heat - a true test of physical and mental strength.

What Sets Max Apart?

Max isn’t just admired for his race times - it’s his attitude and style that resonates. He’s funny, humble and unfiltered. He shares the realities of ultramarathon training — from puke breaks to peak moments - and in doing so, reminds us that no matter the distance, the journey is the reward.

In a world of curated Strava screenshots and perfect splits, Max brings authenticity to the sport, along with a healthy dose of pain face and trail dust.

Why We Featured Him

At Sprint Finish Studio, we believe every run tells a story worth remembering - and Max’s story is one that inspires runners across the world. His achievements are remarkable, but it’s his humour and honesty that truly make him one of the most relatable voices in long-distance running today.

Whether you're chasing a sub-20 5K or your first ultra finish, Max shows us what it means to keep pushing — and maybe laugh a little while you're at it.
